It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
