It's a challenge for Australia to achieve unprecedented feats.

The greatest achievements have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

That it took until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their batters to maintain a record if not provided the possibility.

Finally, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy being given a platform to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her debut and seven global championships have come from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Many contend the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it was a disappointing period because it seemed I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your competitive nature kick in and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and from there Healy was in motion.

"A chance to take the field and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was out her side needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if we do, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the last competing nations at this World Cup need to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this victory coming after success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have postponed consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a global event as leader.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
